Internet Service Providers (ISP) Overview
ISPs typically provide Internet services, domain name registration and web hosting. There are four licensed ISPs, which are small operators serving local areas and businesses and so competition is minimal. Three of the MNOs (QCell, Comium and Gamtel) also offer fixed wireless services. The license duration of an ISP is five years and subject to renewal after the five years. Gamtel has developed a national fibre optic backbone to provide last mile access to consumers. Coverage is still limited to the main urban centres. As a result, access, availability and reliability beyond these parameters continue to be a challenge.
