THE REHABILITATION OF WATER QUALITY LAB AT ABUKO
On Wednesday 14th August 2013, PURA handing over equipment and reagents to the Water Quality control Lab of the Department of Water Resources.
The Hon. Minister of Fisheries and Water Resources, Hon. Mass Axi Gai was present to officially grace the occasion.
Through an MOU with the Department of Water Resources DWR, PURA supports its Water Quality Lab in Abuko with the procurement of reagents and in return the Lab conducts quarterly nationwide water quality testing on portable water services delivered by NAWEC on behalf of PURA.

PURA is mandated by the PURA Act of 2001 to regulate the water sector and water quality control is a key component of this. Currently the standard been used for water quality monitoring is the WHO Drinking Water standard.
Since 2009, PURA has invested over six hundred thousand (D600,000) towards this partnership. The efforts by the team at the Department of Water Resources have enabled PURA to effectively monitor water quality standards throughout The Gambia. These tests in certain instances have formed the basis of remedial action and policy advice on water quality issues over the years.
The following items were handing over;
i. Over D120,000 worth of chemical reagents
ii. An 18,000 BTU split unit AC
iii. A dozen new lab coats
iv. New Desktop PC
v. A 12kg gas bottle
vi. A fully repainted and refurbished Lab including the Washing Room
The DG of PURA, Mr. Abdoulie Jobe reassured the Lab of PURA's continuous support.
