PROMOTING POWER EXCHANGE IN WEST AFRICA : PURA welcomes ERERA consultants
The ECOWAS Regional Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERERA) was established by the Supplementary Act A/SA.2/01/08 January 18, 2008 to promote power exchanges in the region and the development of an opened and competitive regional electricity market. Its headquarters is in Accra, Ghana.
ERERA's main mission is to ensure the regulation of cross border electricity exchanges and provide substantial support to the national regulators of the electricity sector of member states.
During the last ERERA Annual meeting in Dakar (November 2012) in which PURA participated, ERERA announced that PPA Energy would be carrying out some of their relevant studies in the region.
The consultants arrived safely on the 23rd of February and are slated to carry out their mission in The Gambia from 25th to the 27th of February 2013. PURA will be assisting them with their mission and also ensure that they meet key stakeholders. The Consultants, Dr. Graeme Chown and Thomas Amram were received by the Director General, Mr Abdoulie Jobe on Monday at his office and after a lengthy discussion with the PURA professional staffs, the consultants met the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Energy. Other stakeholders they met included NAWEC, members of the Gambia Hotels Association (large consumers) as well as private sector development especially in the renewable energy sector.

With regards to this particular project, PPA Energy is responsible for following studies as shown below:

As the Authority mandated to regulate the energy sector in The Gambia, PURA works very closely with ERERA to improve among other things, our tools of regulation and to ensure harmonization of methods with our sister regulatory bodies in the region.
PURA has been an active participant in all ERERA activities and would continue to support ERERA as it achieves its mandate.
