Under the PURA Act , PURA is mandated to ensure that consumers receive electricity services at the right quality and reliability. Together with AFUR, PURA has developed the Minimum Standards for electricity service delivery which has been adopted for national use.

Quality of Service in terms of electricity supply can range from issues of availability to power quality issues. Indeed, since distribution loses remain exceptionally high some areas suffer from low voltage. Consumer issues like billing period, frequency of meter reading, complaints resolution etc.

In addition PURA periodically conducts tours of facilities of operators to ensure that the standards that have been set are being complied with. Under the Consumer complaints handling helpdesk, consumer complaints are also evaluated to as indicators of performance by operators.

 

The Electricity voltage in The Gambia is 220 - 230V, AC, alternating at 50Hz.
