Introduction
The Gambia Public Utilities Regulatory Authority Act, 2001 provides for the establishment of PURA to regulate the activities of providers of certain public utilities amongst them energy services (electricity, petroleum and gas), communications services (telecommunications, broadcasting and postal services), water and sewerage services and transport services (on land, water and in the air).
One of the roles assigned to the PURA under the Act, is to prepare and maintain a National Numbering Plan and allocate numbers to operators in accordance with that Plan. The objective of this plan is to ensure that numbers are allocated and utilized judiciously.
The licenses issued to the operators require them to maintain their own individual numbering plans and provide an annual numbering report to PURA in compliance with the National Plan.
This Plan provides a clear and unambiguous National Numbering Plan (the
“Plan”) for the national telecommunications infrastructure, so that competing operators can configure their networks with confidence.
