NUMBERING   
The introduction of a New Numbering Plan was necessitated by the liberalization of the telecommunications sector in The Gambia, which resulted in an unprecedented growth of telecommunications services in the country. The growth created a huge demand on the communications numbering resources.

The expectation of more entrants in the market also created a compelling need to revise the previous numbering plan. Entry of other operators in the market is expected to lead to the realization of the Government's objective of ensuring that rural and other less economically lucrative areas are adequately served. Incumbent operators, future entrants and end users require equal and non-discriminatory access to telephone numbers.
